Every September marks the start of the fashion new year, which comes with gorgeous runway shows that showcase various designers’ Spring/Summer collections.
New York Fashion Week just came to an end, and while our designers are still slowly infiltrating the global stage, seeing African models on the international runway has become a mainstay — with the likes of Adesuwa, Maria Borghes, Davidson Obennebo and Adwoa Aboah.
The debate about diversity and inclusivity in the fashion world has been going on for a really long time, and unfortunately, the numbers still show that models of colour are not represented nearly enough. Thankfully, things are slowly improving on that front.
There have been more and more African models storming the runway, and it’s honestly a joy to see. Where the likes of Mayowa Nicholas and Olivia Anakwe have set the pace, their counterparts from Nigeria are joining them on the global stage, and we’re all the way here for it.
So, let’s highlight some of the new Nigerian faces that took the NYFW runway by storm
